Since an important role of group members is to help one another solve problems, it seems reasonable that the higher the level of helping characteristics demonstrated by group members during sessions, the more effective the groups will be. Thus, a primary goal of the group leader is to encourage the development of helping characteristics in all group members by role modeling these characteristics themselves.
